January 20 1967 –“OPERATION COLBY”

Search & Destroy in Bien Hoa Province, Phuoc Chi Secret Zone, III Corps

The 1st Brigade, headed by elements of the 3rd Squadron, 5th Cavalry, began Operation COLBY, a cordon and search mission in the Phuoc Chi Secret Zone. It was during this operation that the 9th Infantry Division made its first significant contact with the Viet Cong. During “OPERATION COLBY” the units accounted for 14 enemy killed. This was also part of “Task Force Saberleg”.
